Danish trade show CIFF to launch Paris edition next June

Everyone will be rushing to Paris next June. After the success of the men's Fashion Week in January, which turned into a busy period for womenswear events too, a repeat is on the cards as new players are entering the fray. We already reported the launch of new womenswear events planned during next June's men's Fashion Week, by Man/Woman and Who's Next, the latter under the code name 'June', and now it is the turn of Danish show CIFF to make its appearance.

The organisers of Copenhagen's premier fashion show have been interested in Paris for several seasons, but now they are well and truly ready to make their move. They aren't yet very explicit about their plans, but they took the opportunity of the edition currently being held in the Danish capital to launch a little teaser campaign.

A simple panel at the entrance of the Copenhagen show, due to end on Friday evening, advertises the dates of the future "CIFF Paris: from Wednesday 20th to Tuesday 26th June". In other words, the launch is planned during the men's Fashion Week, with a slightly longer duration than that of its new French competitors: Who's Next is going for the dates of 23rd-25th for its 'June' show, Man/Woman for 21st-25th June, and Tranoï, the pioneer, having launched a June women's event in 2013, for 22nd-24th June.

CIFF is giving itself a six-day period to woo visitors, exporting to Paris the format it developed for the edition it holds at the Bella Center in Copenhagen. But CIFF has so far been cagey about the format and venue it has chosen for the Paris event. One thing is sure, the organisers can rely on a very long list of names from which to draw their future Parisian exhibitors. According to our sources, they have begun to pitch the project to Scandinavian brands, presenting it as a sort of mini CIFF. It remains to be seen what their actual approach, in terms of brand positioning and exclusivity, will be.

On home soil, CIFF brought together more than 2,000 brands from across the whole fashion spectrum for its dynamic winter edition: from menswear to womenswear, from formal apparel to jeans, from premium to accessible and designer labels, from footwear to childrenswear. Of course, Scandinavian brands made up most of the numbers, but they were not alone.

In 2014, CIFF teamed up with the Denim PV show, each giving the other a certain amount of visibility for a few seasons, an initiative aimed at linking up brands and manufacturers. CIFF's Danish competitor, Revolver, headed towards Milan instead, and has been associated for several editions with the White show, within which it has a dedicated area. Revolver too is about to make an announcement about changes to its international presence.

Copenhagen's summer shows, which are held in August, usually struggle to attract international visitors, especially from Southern Europe. The new events on the horizon would allow both CIFF and Revolver to offer a Scandinavian alternative, fitting into a better slot within the international show calendar.
