The Hyères Fashion and Photography Festival is ready to kick off a novelty-filled 32nd edition. The French event will start on Thursday 27th April and end on Monday 1st May, with Schiaparelli as guest of honour. The historic Parisian label will be feted in two exhibitions, and its Creative Director Bertrand Guyon will chair the fashion designer competition's jury.

The Festival is directed by Jean-Pierre Blanc and chaired by Pascale Mussard, who succeeded Didier Grumbach, and will for the first time introduce a design competition for accessories: the Swarovski Fashion Accessories Prize, sponsored by the crystal manufacturer and worth €15,000. The jury will be headed by footwear designer Pierre Hardy.

As for the photography competition, its jury will be chaired by British fashion photographer Tim Walker, and it will feature a new prize sponsored by Marseilles vintagewear label American Vintage, which will partner the festival for three years, endowing the American Vintage Photography Prize worth €15,000.

Altogether, 10 emerging fashion designers, 10 young accessories designers and 10 promising fashion photographers will vie for this year's Hyères Festival's awards.

Another festival highlight will be the 'Rencontres internationales de la mode' (International fashion meetings) organised by the French Fashion Federation with the support of French public body DEFI and the collaboration of the French Fashion Institute. The events will include conferences, debates and master classes, focusing this year on creativity and digital technology.

The fun will start on Friday 28th April, with the master class by Bertrand Guyon and Schiaparelli's brand ambassador, French model and actress Farida Khelfa. Also on the same day, a debate with a leading designer of the 1980s, Marc Audibet, who pioneered the use of stretch fabric.

Accessory designers will have a dedicated competition: concepts by Wendy Andreu (left), and Marina Chedel - Charles Negre

On Saturday 29th April, fashion accessories will be the focus of a day-long conference. Among the subjects, "fashion tech and creativity", the new 'blockchain' technology,  first implemented as an element of digital currency bitcoin and used to protect fashion designers and labels against intellectual property theft, and "Europe's new creative frontiers."

On Sunday, the main events will be a legal affairs workshop and a debate with designer Joseph Thimister, who was in charge of design at Balenciaga between 1991 and 1997.

Finally, as in previous editions, the festival will showcase the work of about ten past designer competition finalists in the 'The Formers' section.
