Edun- Fashion show- WOMEN'S collection Autumn-Winter 2016/17 in New York (with interview)

Designer: Danielle ShermanLocation: Downtown, Spring Studios Inspiration: Always stems from travelling, exoticism, meetups with worldwide artists. A fair trade label founded by Bono and his wife Ali Hewson Fabrics: knit, cotton, velvet on an outfit jacket & loose trousers, silk, lots of work done by hand Focus on: a new silhouette always so longline but playing with the volumes, vintage buttons re-embroidered, fringed leather shirt front, long sweaters worn as dressesNote: 2 images: that of an incredible front row with Bono, Helena Christensen, Liam Neeson, Lupita Nyong'o + the designer comes to greet us with her 7 week old baby in her armsInterview from Danielle Sherman:The collection is a play of proportion and scale so even the trousers are extremely voluminous but with a ‘nipped in’ waist. It is like an hourglass figure done in an unexpected way. They’re not hourglass dresses but actually hour glass coats, so we ‘nipped in’ the waist with the way we cinched the coats. Then we had these little shrunken cardigans that have a child-like, playful feeling about them, matched with these voluminous trousers. The last few looks were really to juxtapose everything, so then the clothes fell off the body, as opposed to being on the body. So that was our version of what femininity is.We wanted to create a print that was random, irregular and all spotty from different buttons. We used vintage buttons that we found on eBay and then we also used these hand calved buttons from an artisan in Kenya, so they are all scattered around honouring and influenced by the nests of the birds.Music of the show, (donot reuse for more than 7 days after the show)
