M&S appoints tech expert Dunne as non-exec director

Marks & Spencer Group’s major senior team changes this spring have been boosted further with the appointed of tech expert Ronan Dunne to its board as a non-executive director, effective 1 August.

M&S chairman Archie Norman described Dunne as “a very strong commercial leader with enormous international experience in the digital telecoms industry”.

He is former CEO of Verizon Consumer Group, and was previously CEO of Telefónica UK (O2) moving up from CFO. He is currently non-executive chairman of Six Nations Rugby.

M&S added: “[Dunne] has led businesses through technological and people transformation, and has great financial expertise. He will add relevant expertise and fit in with our ‘engaged board’ governance style.”

He will also join the Audit and Nomination Committees at the same time as joining the board.

Long-standing M&S chief executive Steve Rowe stepped down in May, succeeded by food boss and joint chief operating officer Stuart Machin. He now takes on responsibility for day-to-day leadership of the business and its executive committee.

Machin is backed up by Katie Bickerstaffe, M&S's co-chief operating officer, who becomes co-chief executive, working alongside finance and strategy chief Eoin Tonge.
